Continuation · ROOTS Turning Point series

Five years on, the program kept turning.
So should the story.

A continuation video series for Roots Community Health, picking up the thread we set down in March 2021 — Dr. Aboelata, Monica, Dr. Williams, and the Transitional Housing & Workforce Preparedness program — and following what's changed in the half-decade since.

01 · What we made together · March 2021

The original series. Eight cuts, still in rotation.

Produced, directed, and edited by Jamii in spring 2021 for Roots' new transitional housing + workforce preparedness program. The series ran on the ROOTS YouTube channel and at clinic-side screens through the rest of the year.

ROOTS Turning Point · Introduction

Dr. Noha Aboelata frames the program: a new model for transitional housing that bundles workforce preparedness, primary care, and case management under one roof.
EP / 01Mar 01, 2021

ROOTS Turning Point · A Transitional Housing + Workforce Preparedness Program

The flagship long-form. Walks the program top to bottom — intake, housing, workforce, graduation — through three resident interviews and staff voice-over.
EP / 02Mar 01, 2021

Spotlight · STOMP — Dr. Williams

The mobile testing arm of Roots, profiled in 60 seconds. A workhorse cut that out-ran the rest of the series in views, twice.
EP / 03Mar 01, 2021

Spotlight · Monica's Story, Part 2

Monica back at the unit, six weeks in. Daily routine, the counselor she works with, what stuck from the workforce track.
EP / 04Mar 01, 2021

Spotlight · Monica's Story, Part 1

Monica on intake day. The walk in. The piece of the story that became the series' emotional anchor — and the most-shared frame internally.

02 · The four story threads we'd return to

Same people. Five years older. Different questions.

Each thread re-opens one of the 2021 spotlights and follows it into the present. Some are continuations; one (the Workforce Prep alumni track) is a new arc the original series only set up.

01

Monica · five years on

Spotlight cuts · 1 long-form interview

The series' emotional anchor. We've kept in touch through the program office. The arc has movement — graduation, employment, two moves. Filmable, with consent already being discussed.

02

Dr. Williams & the STOMP descendants

1 long-form · STOMP team profile

STOMP wound down in '23, but the playbook moved into Roots' mobile primary care fleet. Dr. Williams still leads it. The story is the through-line from pandemic response to permanent infrastructure.

03

Workforce Prep · five cohorts later

1 long-form · 2 alumni spotlights

The 2021 series introduced the classroom inside the flagship cut. The story now is what came after — 112 alumni, 5 cohorts, a wage curve, two graduates who returned as staff. The most shareable thread for partners and funders.

04

Dr. Aboelata · the next ask

Closing long-form · seated interview

Bookends the series the way the 2021 intro opened it, but reframed: what worked, what didn't, what the next five years require from the city and from donors. Mirrors the Introduction in shot grammar, intentionally.

03 · Scope & deliverables

Two films. Six spotlights. One brand kit.

Built to drop into the same delivery channels as the 2021 series — ROOTS YouTube, clinic-screen loop, partner decks — plus a vertical cut set sized for the channels that didn't exist last time.
