Jamii Technology vs. Other Bay Area Dev Agencies — How We're Different

Danny McLane··5 min read

The Bay Area has no shortage of dev agencies. Most of them do reasonable work. So why does Jamii Technology exist, and why should you pick us over the 40 other shops you could call?

Three reasons. None of them are "we use AI" or "we move fast."

1. Founder-led means scope honesty

Most agencies are graded on billable hours. Bigger project = better quarter. So scope creeps, features get padded, and your three-month build turns into a six-month build.

Jamii Technology is founder-led. I look at every proposal. If the scope is wrong, I say so:

  • Too big? "You don't need a custom CMS. Use Sanity or Payload. Saves you six weeks."
  • Too small? "You're asking for a landing page but what you actually need is a full funnel with analytics. Here's what that looks like."
  • Wrong fit? "This is a mobile-first social product. You want a product engineer, not a studio. Here are three I'd call."

We say no to projects every month. Because the work stays good when the projects are good. That's scope honesty — and it's rare.

2. Cross-functional by default

Most agencies split: design shop, dev shop, marketing shop. The result is handoffs, mismatched vision, and a project manager trying to translate.

Jamii Technology is one team across three surfaces — web and product, media (Jamii Creative Studio), and internal tooling (Jamii Studios). A typical project has:

  • The same person writing the front-end shipping the video on the landing page
  • The photographer who shot your event also tagging assets in your CMS
  • The person setting up your analytics also writing the copy for your first campaign

Fewer seams means faster decisions and higher quality output. It also means we're honest about our ceiling: we don't try to be a 200-person enterprise firm. We're a studio.

3. Local, not remote-first

Jamii Technology is headquartered in San Jose. Most of our clients are within a 40-mile radius. I can drive to a discovery meeting. We can shoot on-site. When something breaks, we can be there.

Remote-first agencies scale better but lose the thing that makes local work work: presence. If you're running a Bay Area business, the agency that shows up at your product launch is worth more than the one with the slicker Figma files.

When we're the wrong fit

We are not the right agency if:

  • You need round-the-clock on-call (we are not a 50-person team)
  • You need offshore prices (we charge Bay Area rates for Bay Area work)
  • You need a rubber-stamp vendor (we will push back on bad ideas)

If any of those are dealbreakers, there are great teams for each. Happy to recommend.

When we are the right fit

Pick Jamii Technology when:

  • You want the founder in the room
  • You care about craft, not just delivery
  • You want a single team that covers product, web, and media
  • You'd rather hear "no" than overpay
